Day 59: Place of the Sunlight of God

time of year

Oconee State Park, Mountain Rest, SC

($5/car). Tamasee Knob Trail (4.1 out and back, 751’ elevation). The name “Tamassee” means “Place of the Sunlight of God”, according to an interpretation of the Cherokee word which gave the area its original title. I think that’s the perfect name for this hike. A beautiful walk through the woods along undulating hills, up on to a ridge, ending at a rock outcropping with big views. We had the entire hike to ourselves.

difficulty: 7

We drove to Highlands, NC

to get lunch from Mountain Fresh Pizza. Highlands is always so busy.

We checked into Holiday Inn and Suites, Clemson, SC

After a short rest we went to Which Wich for sandwiches

Publix sandwiches are cheaper and way better. Not impressed.

We went to Mountain View Park, Clemson, SC

No mountain in sight but it was a good place to watch the beautiful sunset over the lake.
