Garden Of The Gods, Herod, IL. The 1/2 mile Interpretive Trail offers spectacular views with a short hike among some of the most unique rock formations in Southern Illinois. Understandably popular, if you prefer to be one with nature you may wish to visit on a weekday.
Indian Point Trailhead, Garden of the Gods Wilderness, Herod, IL. (1.7 mile loop, 187’ elevation). There is no information about any hikes other than the Interpretive Trail above on site so consider downloading a trail map before you go to find out your options. This trail takes you to a pretty lookout and past some huge rock towers. There are a few spots that you can climb up into the maze of weathered rock. Much quieter than the Interpretive Trail, this one lets you appreciate these crazy formations from the bottom.

Rim Rock National Recreation Area, Findlay, IL. I couldn’t find information on length of this hike but it got to be under a mile. This was an impulse stop, we saw the sign and pulled in. The Rim Rock Trail takes you around the top of a bluff with no real views and a couple of cool trees.

Cave-In-Rock State Park, Cave-In-Rock, IL. A 55’ wide cave that faces the Ohio River.

Cave-In-Rock Ferry, Cave-In-Rock, IL. We took a free ferry ride across the Ohio River. The ferry operates from 6:00 a.m., to 9:50 p.m. and their website is a facebook page.

Just after we left the ferry we got hit by a flying rock. We spent the most of the rest of the afternoon patching it.

Country Inn and Suites by Radisson, Evansville, IN. 8.4 rating Booking.com. We got $10 off for a last minute booking and $7 off for a mobile only discount. When we got there we asked for an upgrade and we ended up with a king suite with a very comfortable bed.
