Day 182: Spelunking In The Most Photographic Cave

Autumn

time of year

Stephens Gap Callahan Cave Preserve, Woodville, AL. (1.4 mile out and back, 239’ elevation). This cave requires a permit and there is a closed gate that requires a code to get through (you’ll get it in an email with your permit info). A helmet is required to enter and hiking boots and a light recommended. This cave is incredible. Somehow, we were lucky enough to have it all to ourselves, even though we passed several groups on the way in and out.

Lost sink Falls Trail, Keel Mountain Preserve, Gurley, AL. (2 miles total out and back, approx. 500’ elevation). A fun single track, lots of interesting rock formations along the way. The waterfall into the sink hole was just a trickle but it was cool to see.
