Blue Wall Preserve, Landrum, SC. This 575-acre preserve is part of a larger collection of 22,000 acres of conserved land in the Southern Blue Ridge Mountains.
The Cherokee called the Blue Ridge Mountains the “Blue Wall.” Looking 1,400 feet up the Southern Blue Ridge Escarpment at views of Hogback Mountain and surrounding peaks, you can see how the preserve earned its name. We hiked past the 2 ponds to Lanny’s Cascade (2 miles out and back). There were some pretty wildflowers but I’d say that this is a place to visit only if you live nearby and need somewhere to go.
