Day 156: Amazing Views And Solitude

Summer

time of year

Sam Knob Summit Trail (2.5 miles total out and back, 564’ elevation). This is one of our favorite easy hikes. It passes through a field of wildflowers before heading up around side of the mountain to the summit. Last time we came, a few years ago now, we had 360 degree views. This time it’s much more grown in, but still amazing. Just next door is Black Balsam Knob, which is packed with people, and we had this one all to ourselves the whole time we were up there.

Lunch with a view.

Looking Glass Rock Overlook is the trailhead for Skinny Dip Falls (1.5 mile total out and back, 200’ elevation). Cool dragon tree on the way in. Not much of a falls but there are quite a few good rocks pools where you can find your own little spot to dip your feet.
