It’s a beautiful drive through Virginia horse country.
Shenandoah National Park, Fort Royal, VA. Land’s Run Waterfall. (1.3 mile total out and back, 325’ elevation). There is a series of cascades that descend about 80 feet into a gorge. The utilitarian trail takes you down to the top of the falls. You have to be comfortable climbing down a little to really appreciate them.
Stoney Man Trail (1.6 total miles out and back, 340’ elevation). On the last trail, closer to the north end of the park, it was a sunny 88F. On this trail, in the Skyland area, it was a welcome 75F. This was a very enjoyable hike with a great payoff at the top with fantastic views.
Luray Caverns Motel, Luray, VA. This is an older, no frills model. They claim to have Wi-Fi, which they do but no internet (??), so it’s not usable. The town of Luray is not that nice either. I’ll hazard a guess and say that the main source of income here is the Caverns.
