Day 134: Looking For A Hidden Waterfall

Summer

time of year

Margarette Falls, Greeneville, TN. (2.4 miles total out and back, 623’ elevation). Very rocky trail goes up the entire way. Use stiff hikers with good grip. We were glad to have our poles. It’s a beautiful walk along a mountain stream, rhododendrons blooming along the trail, bright green moss covered trees and rocks to a 60’ cascading waterfall surrounded by tall cliffs and lush forest.

We took the very steep trail to the right of the falls and, with a great deal of slipping and bushwhacking, tried to find Bailey Falls, before deciding the trail wasn’t safe to continue on and turning back.
