We need an easy day after so much elevation yesterday. This trail starts in a flowering meadow, enters the woods to follows a stream and comes out on a collection of huge boulders flowing down the stream bed.

Day 151: Hiking Away From the Blue Ridge Parkway
Today we’re taking the Blue Ridge Parkway to 2 excellent off the beaten path hikes, a historic charity event and enjoying a tradition of ours.

Day 150: We Hiked To The Highest Falls
This beautiful, woodsy, rocky trail lots of uphill for a good workout. It takes you to a beautiful waterfall, the tallest along the entire Blue Ridge Parkway.

Day 149: Adventure In Devil’s Marbleyard
This rocky trail takes you up to a boulder field near the top of the mountain. We scrambled about halfway up and sat there, taking in the views of the valley below and surrounding mountains.

Day 148: Earning The Views
It’s our last day to explore the Shenandoahs. It’s going to be a beautiful, sunny, breezy 75F summer day, the perfect weather for the 3 hikes we have picked out.

Day 147: Galloping To Skyland
On the last trail, closer to the north end of the park, it was a sunny 88F. On this trail, in the Skyland area, it was a welcome 75F. This was a very enjoyable hike with a great payoff at the top with fantastic views.

Day 146: They Had Me At Candy Emporium
Our drive took us through a big valley of farm country and small towns. I hadn’t realized that there were so many Amish and Mennonites in Pennsylvania. We went for a short hike before coming across our first surprise stop of the day; Mr. Ed’s Elephant Museum and Candy Emporium.

Day 145: Blueberry Bog
We were close enough to hear the bison wuffling to their babies. Then we headed to the bog, where water lilies bloomed pink and white, blueberries lined the boardwalk, and we found blooming pitcher plants with bright red veins.

Day 144: In The Heart Of The Pennsylvania Wilds
Today are exploring the Pennsylvania Wilds. This region includes 29 state parks, eight state forests and over two million acres of public lands. This region is home to the largest free-roaming elk herd in the northeast and some of the darkest skies in the country.
